At least three paramilitary soldiers were killed in an attack on a Rangers compound in Karachi on Saturday evening, according to Pakistani police. The assault occurred when a group of heavily armed attackers stormed the facility located in the Gulistan-i-Jauhar area.
Inspector General of Sindh Police Javed Alam Odho reported that four attackers were also killed during the incident. The attack began when a suspected bomber rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the compound's entrance, resulting in a significant explosion. Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene as the attackers breached the compound shortly after the explosion.
Odho indicated that initial information suggested the vehicle was driven into the main gate of the facility. However, he noted that officials had not yet confirmed the occurrence of an explosion at the time of his statement. The situation prompted immediate action from local authorities.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah acknowledged the gravity of the situation, stating he had taken notice of the explosion and gunfire reports. He has ordered officials to prepare a detailed report on the incident, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation.
In response to the attack, security forces sealed off streets around the Mosamiat Chowrangi area, where gunfire was reported. A clearance operation was initiated, involving Special Security Unit commandos, the Anti-Terrorist Force, and Rangers personnel, all working to secure the area and neutralize any remaining threats.
The Edhi Foundation, which provides emergency assistance across Pakistan, reported that at least two individuals were wounded and transported to a hospital for treatment. This attack underscores the ongoing violence targeting security forces in various regions of Pakistan, although no group has claimed responsibility for the assault as of yet.
