Millie Bobby Brown and Louis Partridge have emphasized their strong off-screen friendship as a crucial element in their performances in the upcoming film, Enola Holmes 3. The film takes Enola, the teenage sister of Sherlock Holmes, to Malta, where her relationship with Tewkesbury is tested by a new case involving Sherlock's mysterious disappearance.
Partridge, 23, noted that their chemistry allows them to approach scenes with a sense of ease. He remarked, "We realized we don’t do much prep for some of the scenes… we’re really able to be in it." Brown chimed in, highlighting their tendency to share laughter on set, which enhances their dynamic.
She humorously pointed out that people often express surprise at Partridge's intelligence, saying, "People will say to me, 'I just met Louis Partridge and I had a really interesting conversation, he’s a really smart guy.' I’m like, who? Louis Partridge is a smart guy? When?"
The film's new director, Philip Barantini, aims to delve into darker themes, appealing to both adult and younger audiences. He expressed a desire to create content suitable for his daughter, a fan of the franchise.
Barantini, known for his work on Adolescence and Boiling Point, stated, "My nine-year-old daughter can’t watch anything I’ve ever done. She’s a big fan of Enola, and I wanted to make something we could watch together and challenge myself to do something different."
Brown, who has been a producer since the franchise's inception, collaborated closely with Barantini on the film's direction. She emphasized her commitment to ensuring Enola's character remains true to her intelligence and spirit.
"It feels like a part of my heart forever and I have my heart and hands all over this project," Brown said, expressing her protective feelings toward the character.
Himesh Patel joins the cast as Dr. Watson, having waited for news on a third film after a brief appearance in the second installment.
He praised Brown's dedication to the franchise and her willingness to engage in creative discussions, noting that she is not afraid of "creative friction." Patel remarked, "It’s not an argument, but she puts her opinion forward and wants to have that discussion."
Brown humorously noted that Enola's high standards sometimes affect her personal life, reflecting the character's influence on her. She said, "Enola is high maintenance and sometimes I go home and I’m like, 'Why does the bed look like that?' Then I’m like, Millie, chill, you do not need to speak like that."
