Overnight attacks between Ukraine and Russia resulted in three deaths and over 30 injuries, local officials reported on Saturday. Two individuals were killed in Ukraine, while one died in Russian-controlled territory.
In Ukraine, a 66-year-old man was killed in a Russian drone strike in Sumy. Regional military Governor Oleh Hryhorov stated that the attack caused extensive damage, with reports of a "massive attack" in the region that also injured 10 others.
Additionally, nine people, including two children, were injured in a separate attack in the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia.
Ukraine’s State Emergency Service confirmed that the assault on Zaporizhzhia resulted in significant destruction to civilian infrastructure, including a partially destroyed residential building. Emergency workers were able to rescue two individuals trapped under the rubble, highlighting the severity of the damage.
On the Russian side, a Ukrainian attack in Horlivka, a town in the Donetsk region under Russian control, resulted in the death of one woman, as reported by the Moscow-installed mayor Ivan Prikhodko. Furthermore, ten people were injured in a Ukrainian strike on the Volgograd region, which resulted in damage to industrial facilities.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that FP-5 Flamingo missiles targeted the Titan-Barrikady facility in Volgograd, a site known for producing military equipment used against Ukraine. This escalation in hostilities follows Ukraine's recent efforts to disrupt Russian military logistics, including attacks on Crimea and communications centers near Moscow.
In response to these Ukrainian attacks deep within Russian territory, Russia has relocated air defense systems from various regions to Moscow, as well as from the Kerch Bridge, which connects Crimea to the Russian mainland, according to Zelenskyy. The ongoing conflict continues to escalate, with both sides suffering casualties and damage to infrastructure.
