DJ Trevor Nelson Takes Break from Work Due to Health Issues

DJ and presenter Trevor Nelson is taking a break from his work commitments due to health issues. The Radio 2 and 1Xtra host announced on Instagram that he is concentrating on getting better after undergoing tests this week.

Nelson, 62, has been a significant figure in the UK music scene, celebrating 30 years at the BBC earlier this year, where he has been a prominent advocate for black music.

In his message, Nelson explained, "After a routine check-up, I was advised to have some follow-up tests. As a result, I will be taking some further time off." He emphasized the importance of addressing health matters directly, stating, "It's important to deal with facts and not speculate.

So I'm concentrating on getting better, being back to 100% me and to getting back behind the mic and the decks." His absence from his daily Radio 2 slot has been noted by fans and colleagues alike.

The BBC's director of music, Lorna Clarke, expressed support for Nelson, saying, "Everyone at BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 1Xtra wishes Trevor a very speedy recovery and we all look forward to him returning to his shows whenever he is ready." This week, Nelson also received a special award at the Television and Radio

Industries Club (Tric) Awards, recognizing his extensive broadcasting career.

Messages of support have poured in from various music stars, including Stormzy, Spice Girl Mel B, and Beverley Knight, who highlighted the importance of prioritizing health. Knight noted, "Health. First and always," while Lemar added, "Big love Trev.

Rest up." Fellow broadcasters such as Clara Amfo and Vernon Kay have also sent their well-wishes, with Kay stating, "Everyone at BBC Radio 2 is sending Trevor all the very best wishes. He’s a stalwart broadcaster within the UK."

Clara Amfo will cover Nelson's weekday show starting next week, with DJ Spoony taking over from July 6 until further notice.

Richie Anderson, who is currently covering for Nelson, expressed his support, saying, "Sending all the love in the world to our Trevor, we’ve got your back buddy." Nelson's career began with the Madhatter sound system and has included significant roles at Kiss FM and BBC Radio 1, where he has made a lasting impact on the music industry.
