US Conducts Second Night of Strikes Against Iran Following Drone Attack

For the second consecutive day, the United States has conducted military strikes against Iran, following attacks on commercial vessels in the region. The latest strikes occurred on Saturday, June 27, 2026, and indicate potential instability in a ceasefire established on June 17.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that the strikes were ordered by the Commander in Chief in response to ongoing Iranian aggression against commercial shipping. CENTCOM reported targeting Iranian military surveillance infrastructure, communication systems, air defense sites, drone storage facilities, and minelayer capabilities.

Explosions were reported in southern Iran, particularly near the village of Tahrui, close to the port of Sirik, which was also the site of Friday's US attacks. The renewed strikes followed an incident involving the Panama-flagged tanker Kiku, which was hit by a projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz early Saturday morning.

The Kiku was carrying over 2 million barrels of crude oil at the time of the attack but reported no injuries among the crew and no cargo leakage. The tanker had departed from the Al Shaheen oil field and was scheduled to dock in Fujairah, UAE, on Sunday.

On Friday, a Singapore-registered container ship, the Ever Lovely, was similarly struck by a drone while navigating the Strait of Hormuz. No injuries were reported in that incident as well. US President Donald Trump condemned the drone strike as a violation of the June 17 memorandum.

Following the attacks, the US and Iran exchanged fire, with the US targeting areas around Sirik and Iran striking US military installations in the Middle East. CENTCOM noted that Iran had the opportunity to honor the ceasefire agreement but chose not to, leading to the latest US military actions.

CENTCOM emphasized that commercial traffic through the Strait of Hormuz would continue with US military support, asserting that US forces remain vigilant and prepared for further actions.
