Hockney, known for his iconic paintings of the Wolds countryside, chose the area as a subject for his work, bringing it international acclaim.<\/p>\n<p>Councillor Nick Coultish, vice chairman of <a href=\"https:\/\/heibola.com\/en\/tag\/visit-hull-and-east-yorkshire\/\" data-ailt=\"1\">Visit Hull and East Yorkshire<\/a> (VHEY), referred to Hockney as &quot;one of our region&#039;s most famous ambassadors.&quot; He noted that Hockney&#039;s exhibitions have provided opportunities to showcase East Yorkshire to new audiences.<\/p>\n<p>Hockney, born in Bradford, spent time in Bridlington, where he was inspired by the local landscapes. His notable painting, Bigger Trees Near Warter, created in 2007, measures 40ft by 15ft and consists of 50 individual canvases. Coultish stated that VHEY plans to promote Hockney&#039;s legacy through initiatives like the David Hockney cycling trail.<\/p>\n<p>The Wolds Inn in Huggate, a business that has benefited from Hockney&#039;s association with the area, has seen an influx of visitors. Inn owner Vicky Knocker mentioned that many guests are walkers and cyclists who discuss Hockney&#039;s work while enjoying the local scenery.<\/p>\n<p>Knocker shared a local legend that Hockney experienced his first drunken episode at the pub as a child in 1952. Despite the potential for increased tourism, she expressed concern about maintaining the village&#039;s peaceful atmosphere, stating that residents prefer a quieter environment.<\/p>\n<p>Tourism spending in the region recently reached \u00a31 billion for the first time. Coultish expressed confidence that visitor numbers could continue to grow, citing the area&#039;s hospitality industry as a key factor.
