The earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, primarily affected the northern coastal state of <a href=\"https:\/\/heibola.com\/en\/tag\/la-guaira\/\" data-ailt=\"1\">La Guaira<\/a> and the capital, Caracas.<\/p>\n<p>Acting President Delcy Rodriguez declared a nationwide state of emergency as the earthquakes were felt across much of <a href=\"https:\/\/heibola.com\/en\/tag\/venezuela\/\" data-ailt=\"1\">Venezuela<\/a> and even in parts of Brazil. Simon Bolivar International Airport in Caracas has been closed due to damage sustained during the quakes.<\/p>\n<p>The first earthquake occurred near San Felipe at 18:04 local time, followed by a stronger quake near Yumare. The shallow depth of these earthquakes, occurring less than 20 kilometers beneath the surface, contributed to the extensive damage reported across the region.<\/p>\n<p>Emergency response plans were activated immediately, with local authorities mobilizing firefighters, police, and medical teams to assist in rescue operations. Neighboring countries, including El Salvador and Brazil, have offered assistance, with Brazil sending a specialist search and rescue mission consisting of 36 firefighters and telecommunications experts.<\/p>\n<p>The United States has pledged $150 million in humanitarian aid to support the relief efforts.<\/p>\n<p>As rescue efforts continue, authorities are also addressing the needs of those displaced by the disaster. Schools are being converted into emergency shelters to accommodate families who have lost their homes.
